Half of Bulgarians want cooperation with Russia restored after the war in Ukraine: European Council for Foreign Relations survey

51% of people in Bulgaria want to see the restoration of cooperation with Russia in full after the war, according to a survey by the European Council for Foreign Relations. Around one-third of people in Austria and in Hungary, and one-quarter of people in Germany uphold the same view, while in Poland, 39% say they want all relations with Russia severed even after the war in Ukraine is over. According to the survey, 47% of the respondents in Bulgaria regard Russia as a necessary partner, and 18% say Russia is an ally which shares our own interests and values. According to 17% of respondents in Bulgaria, Russia is an adversary with which we are in conflict. Italy is positioned around midway, with one-quarter of the respondents saying Russia is an “ally” or a “partner” to Europe or to their country, and only one-third regard Moscow as an “adversary”. Asked whether sanctions should be imposed on China if it decided to deliver weapons to Russia, 39% of Bulgarians answer “no”, 24% - “yes”, and 38% don’t know.
