Changes to Foreigners Act adopted at first reading

Photo: BGNES

The Parliament adopted at first reading changes to the Foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria Act. They introduce measures for implementing European regulations for use of the Schengen Information System for the purpose of returning illegally residing people from third countries.

Emphasis is placed on reports of missing and vulnerable persons who should be prevented from traveling to ensure their protection or to prevent threats to public safety and order. The coercive administrative measure "ban on leaving the country" is added to the existing restrictive measures if there is a risk of persons becoming victims of human trafficking. A fast procedure for appealing travel authorization denials is envisaged.
