Bulgaria could lose revenue from road traffic if E-79 corridor is not completed

It is urgent to complete the Struma Highway and finish work on mitigating the risk of landslide near the Zheleznitsa tunnel on the highway, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Ivan Shishkov, has told bTV. He was outraged by the fact that the caretaker cabinet and the president were called Russophiles and were accused of protecting the interests of another country. The first thing the official cabinet did was to disconnect Bulgaria from Russian gas, Shishkov said and specified that he was talking about the launch of the gas interconnector with Greece.

If we do not finish the Struma Highway, including a tunnel under Petrohan on the European road E-79, all cargo will start bypassing Bulgaria and the traffic from Greece will go through North Macedonia and Serbia, Shishkov commented.
