The XVI Spring Book Fair and the Sofia International Literary Festival for Children and Youth has opened in the capital in front of the National Palace of Culture. A record number of 144 publishing houses are participating. Until June 4, more than 40 book premieres, meetings with authors, translators and illustrators are coming up. There will be a parallel program in bookstores and literary clubs.

"I don't have wings like the birds, but books give me wings. Being a reader is a power that no one can take away from you," Prime Minister Galab Donev said at the opening. He expects that in the near future there will be requirements for job candidates to be literate in the Bulgarian language. The grammar of a language is its constitution and it is observed without arbitrariness and deviations, Donev added.
