Nationwide protests against war on the roads

Photo: library

Relatives of people killed in road accidents organized a national protest against the war on the roads on 20 key road sections in the country. Protest actions were held in the regions of Sofia, Varna, Burgas, Shumen, Targovishte, Pazardzhik and the Lesovo border crossing area, where the highest concentration of traffic accidents is observed.

The demands of protesters are for urgent changes to the legislation with tougher penalties for drivers who cause death on the road. According to the protesters, drivers under the influence of alcohol and drugs should be punished severely, and when they cause death, they should be punished for premeditated murder, instead of being released with a suspended sentence.
