There has been significant progress in the investigation of the alleged assassination attempt against Bulgaria's prosecutor general Ivan Geshev, caretaker interior minister Ivan Demerdzhiev announced to BNR.

On May 1, on the Sofia-Samokov road, an explosion occurred in front of the motorcade of the chief state prosecutor.

"More likely, this is an act of intimidation," Demerdzhiev said, talking about the likely motive. He also said that the Ministry of the Interior will do everything possible to get to the truth, and for this purpose experts from many partner services have already been brought in.

"We are starting to get closer and closer," added Demerdzhiev, expressing hope that the facts of the case may soon become clear.

Regarding the statement of the chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev about political interference in the judiciary, the minister stated that he and his deputy Borislav Sarafov have recognized practices and facts that have long been talked about in the legal community. "These problems have existed for years, but they were cleverly concealed and kept silent," concluded Demerdzhiev.
