In Pretoria, President Rumen Radev opened an exhibition about Bulgaria’s support for the struggle of the South African people against apartheid and social discrimination, the presidential press service has announced.

At the official ceremony in the South African capital, President Radev pointed out that the biggest capital in the relations between Bulgaria and South Africa is the support and the bond among people forged during the fight against apartheid. The exposition in Freedom Park in Pretoria features photographs and documents from the Bulgarian archives and personal collections presenting Bulgaria’s contribution in the fight for freedom and for doing away with the regime of racial and social discrimination. Rumen Radev stated further that after its liberation in the 19th century, Bulgaria adopted one of the most democratic constitutions in Europe which stipulates that any slave who has set foot on Bulgarian soil shall be free. That is the reason why the Bulgarian people have always had such empathy and compassion for suppressed peoples and ethnic groups, the Bulgarian head of state said.
