Bulgaria will be allocated around €10 million from the second EC financial package worth €100 million to help farmers in the countries most affected by duty-free imports of agricultural products from Ukraine. The aid was distributed between Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia.

Bulgaria's share is inadequate and the cabinet has requested information from the Commission on the methods used to calculate the funds for Bulgarian farmers. This was announced by Agriculture Minister Yavor Gechev at the sheep farmers' convention near Lyaskovets. Bulgaria received EUR 16.75 million under the first aid package. Meanwhile, in Parliament, Bulgaria’s caretaker Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestly Yavor Gechev said that Bulgaria has more than EUR 3 billion worth of produce, because of the imports of agricultural products from Ukraine. In his words, half of the Ukrainian sunflower that enterted the EU is in Bulgaria.

Mr. Gechev said that Bulgaria would also insist on an analysis of the situation with imports of powdered milk. According to the minister's data, the purchase price of cow's milk in Bulgaria has dropped by 30% in two months.
