“Like Salsa", but in Balkan way

GloBalKan is an ethnic jazz project that combines folk rhythms with jazz melodies, author's compositions and arrangements, characterizing the musical palette of different parts of the Balkans. The formation was created in 2018 by Nedyalko Nedyalkov - one of our most prominent kaval performers, who invited Stoyan Yankulov - percussion instruments, Petar Milanov - guitar and Vladimir Karparov - saxophone to join him. A year later they recorded their debut album "Wonder Wheel" with the vocals of Bogdana Petrova, Stoimenka Nedyalkova and Martha Mavroidi from Greece. It features both Bulgarian folk songs arranged by GloBalKan musicians and their own instrumental compositions. There are also surprises, like a Greek folk song, and Astor Piazzolla's Libertango, but in a GloBalKan version.

"The idea of GloBalKan is to invite musicians from the Balkans and from all over the world - people who we know will fit our concept and style of playing," Nedyalko Nedyalkov says. "Keeping in mind how fast globalization is developing all over the world, we decided to show that we, being a small part of the Balkans, can fit in this global picture".

GloBalKan's current line-up includes Nedyalko Nedyalkov, Stoyan Yankulov, saxophonist Arnau Garrofé Farràs and guitarist Pepi Milanov. A carousel of musical ideas and magical rhythms, will be presented on May 9 at BeeBopCafe - Plovdiv as the instrumental compositions from the album are reworked for a concert version. The concert will be broadcast live on BeebopCafé TV, so you can attend it virtually at 21:00 Bulgarian time.

Before this concert, we present to you Nedyalko Nedyalkov’s "Like Salsa" performed by GloBalKan and part of the album "Wonder Wheel".
