The song “Peperuga” is inspired by a rain-making folkore ritual

“Peperuda/Butterfly” is a Bulgarian rain-making ritual held in the spring and the summer, on certain dates or in times of drought. In different Bulgarian regions it is known as Peperuga, Peruniga, etc. It is most often performed at spring and summer festivals at the beginning of May. A little girl covered with foliage walks around the village, accompanied by a group of girls. The village residents sprinke her with water. Meanwhile, the other participants sing songs praying for rain.

This custom has inspired Savina, DiMO(BG) and Alex Nushev to create the song "Butterfly" which combines Afro house and ethnic elements.

The piece was released shortly before Midsummer’s Day in 2022 and quickly became the undisputed music hit of last summer.

"Maybe it's because of the magic encoded in the custom Peperuga", Savina says.  "The video interprets the chanting, which is firmly rooted to Bulgarian beliefs and traditions. On the other hand, I know that a similar ritual exists in other countries and on other continents."

However, the song was prepared several months earlier and is the result of the collaboration between Savina, DiMO (BG) and a music producer.

“Savina contacted me and sent me a working version of the song which was enough for me to embrace the idea. It is very easy to work with professionals like her and Alex Nushev. The piece is charged with positive energy and that is exactly what people need”, said DiMO(BG).

DiMO(BG) made the arrangement and the audio mastering. Savina and Alex Nushev co-authored the music. They also worked together on the 2021 summer hit “Yunache” and the ethno jazz project “Bela Le”.” Savina combines ethno music, folklore music and dance elements in the song “Peperuga.
