Members of Parliament honored the victims of the Armenian Genocide with declarations. "Back in 1987, the European Parliament declared April 24 as Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day", said MP Kostadin Kostadinov, leader of Vazrazhdane. He recalled that in 2015, the Bulgarian Parliament declared April 24 as a Victims Remembrance Day, but used the word "mass extermination" instead of "genocide".
MP Ilina Mutafchieva from We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria pointed out that April 24 is a date for commemorating the 1.5 million Armenians who perished.
"We owe compassion and sympathy to the victims at any time, but as politicians we must clearly dissociate ourselves from a selective approach to historical events, as well as from topics that can draw new dividing lines, said MP Mustafa Karadayi, leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.
