Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on official visit to Latin America

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis paid an official visit to Brazil, as part of his Latin American tour. His visit to Brazil, which is Romania's biggest trading partner in Latin America, is the first at head of state level in the last 23 years. He was received by his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Klaus Iohannis’ visit aims to boost relations between Romania and Brazil. The Romanian Presidency said that among the main objectives of the official visits to Latin America is presenting Romania's positions and assessments, as a member state of the European Union and NATO, and a direct neighbor of Ukraine, regarding Russia's war against Ukraine. “However much Moscow tries to justify its actions, Russia is the aggressor that violated Ukraine's territorial integrity and tried to destroy its independence”, Romania’s head of state Iohannis told Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva with regard to Russia’s war in Ukraine. Romania's president Klaus Iohannis is paying a visit to Brazil, Argentina and Chile from April 18 to April 26. The three richest countries in South America said they are in favour of a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine and are not planning to provide Ukraine with arms.

Türkiye launches Black Sea gas deliveries

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan launched Turkiye's first delivery of natural gas to its national grid from a gas reserve discovered in the Black Sea. Turkey’s annual gas consumption stands at 55-60 billion cubic meters. The country aims to meet 30% of its gas needs from the Black Sea reserves by 2026, said the website 3-e-news. "This is a historic milestone for Türkiye's path to energy independence," Erdoğan said at the ceremony held in northern province of Zonguldak. Recep Erdoğan also announced that natural gas used in kitchens and for hot water, equivalent to 25 cubic meters per month on average, would be provided free of charge for a year. Households are expected to receive the first quantities of gas from the Black Sea reserves in the first week of May.

Doctors in Nis save lives during their days off

Instead of praises and awards, we demand high-quality equipment, enough staff to treat our patients and better management in healthcare, said cardiologists from the Serbian city of Nis. Surgeons from the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery in Niš /UKC Niš/ worked 12 consecutive weekends without pay to eliminate all waiting lines for heart and vascular surgeries. It all started at the initiative of a young doctor after calling a relative of a patient who was on the waiting list. "You can bring the patient on Monday", said the doctor. "He died 10 days ago", the relative of the deceased replied. “We must eliminate all waiting lines so patients can survive”, the clinic’s Director Dr. Dragan Milić said for the weekly news magazine NIN. “You can use money to measure a kilogram of tomatoes, a bottle of juice or a box of cigars, but you can’t use money to measure human life. That is the major difference”, said Dr. Dragan Milić
