Eternal memory for the heroes of the April Epopee, who proved to the world that Bulgarians deserve their freedom, President Rumen Radev wrote in Facebook on the occasion of 147 years after the outbreak of the April Uprising.

"On this day 147 years ago, the first gunshot of the April Uprising was fired. The people of the uprising remain forever an example of self-sacrifice and enlightened patriotism," President Radev adds.

The uprising of 1876, which started in Koprivshtitsa on April 20, is marked throughout the country with various events. With their bravery and self-sacrifice, the Bulgarians attracted the attention of Europe to the Bulgarian question in the Ottoman Empire and paved the way towards liberation.
