The Justice Minister of North Macedonia Krenar Loga has issued an order for the closure of the Bulgarian club Tsar Boris III in Ohrid, BGNES news agency reports. This is taking place a week after the closure of the Bulgarian club Ivan Mihailov in Bitola. The motive for this decision is that the name of Tsar Boris III stirs up tension and intolerance in Macedonian society, as he is responsible for crimes committed during the Bulgarian occupation of Macedonia in the years of World War 2.
The two clubs are being closed after the approval of retroactive legislative amendments. The new texts in the Law on Associations and Foundations ban civic associations, foundations and political parties which use names connected with fascism, Nazism and genocide.
