Migratory pressure along Bulgaria’s borders up by over 40% y-o-y

Migratory pressure along the borders of Bulgaria has gone up by over 40% since the beginning of the year, as compared to the same period of 2022, the annual analysis by the Border Police Directorate-General shows, BNR’s Nikolay Hristov reports.

More than 168,000 attempts at illegal entry into the country have been thwarted last year. The Bulgarian border authorities have detained 2,298 citizens of third countries for breach of the state border, a 66% increase compared to 2021. The detainees are mostly citizens of Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and Morocco.
