Bulgaria will not be able to join the Eurozone at the beginning of 2024, because it has not adopted three crucial bills and does not meet the inflation criterion. According to experts, the country may adopt the single currency in mid-2024 at the earliest.

According to Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for An Economy that Works for People, January 1, 2025 is a possible date for Bulgaria’s Eurozone entry. For the purpose, Bulgaria has to meet the Maastricht criteria with inflation being the main problem. Valdis Dombrovskis is paying a two-day visit to Bulgaria to discuss issues related to Bulgaria's Eurozone membership, the country's Recovery and Resilience Plan, as well as other topics on the European agenda.
