At Syria's request, the European Commission activated the Civil Protection Mechanism for humanitarian aid to the victims of the earthquake, the press service of the Council of Ministers said. In this context, the Bulgarian government is committed to providing humanitarian aid as well as organising the aid distribution corridors.

Due to the difficulties with air supplies to Syria, alternative routes are being discussed and Bulgaria will be able to provide humanitarian aid to those in need in Syria as soon as possible. This decision comes after the US Treasury suspended sanctions imposed on Syria for six months.
