After waiting at the border for nearly four hours, Bulgarian citizens who wanted to pay tribute to the revolutionary Gotse Delchev on the occasion of the 151st anniversary of his birth were allowed entry to North Macedonia.

The reason for the delay were problems in the customs computer system, which prevented the verification of their documents.

Meanwhile, it became clear that the Bulgarian delegation, which is in Skopje, will be waiting for them to pay their respects together at the Bulgarian revolutionary's grave.

Because of tensions between the two countries in recent months, the Macedonian authorities have organised for the delegations of the government in Skopje, the opposition and those coming from Bulgaria to lay wreaths at different times so as not to cross each other.

"I do not think that such security measures are necessary. The relations between our two nations do not suggest these draconian measures that we are witnessing," Ivan Demerdzhiev commented after the Bulgarian delegation laid a wreath on Gotse Delchev's grave in the yard of St. Spas Church.
