National embroideries are an important element of Bulgaria’s traditional culture. They are very sophisticated, consisting of symbols and shades of meaning reaching back to the recesses of time. Bulgarian women used to make embroideries on clothing, tablecloths and other household fabrics, the shapes and patterns being a token of health and happiness.
