The last of the four ammonia-filled rail tank cars which derailed near Pirot has been lifted and the railway line from Bulgaria to Serbia was unblocked, thanks to the "Bulgarian heroes", local media "Pirot Plus" reported and distributed a series of videos.

The Bulgarians involved in the operation used cranes sent by the Bulgarian State Railways to straighten and pull away from the trucks the four derailed tank cars with the dangerous gas.

On 25 December, a 20-carriage train carrying ammonia derailed on the Pirot-Dimitrovgrad railway line. Two people died and the line leading from Bulgaria through Serbia to Central Europe was permanently blocked.
