Fine and administrative penalties over swapped babies in Sofia-based maternity hospitals

Photo: БГНЕС

Inadequate control is the reason for swapped babies in Sofia's Sheynovo  Maternity Hospital. This was established by the inspection of the "Medical Supervision" agency. No one in the chain at the hospital noticed that the babies and mothers had different bracelet numbers. The head of the neonatology department, the head nurse and the senior nurse will be fined and punished administratively for the case. The data will be handed over to the prosecutor's office, which is also conducting an investigation.
The case became known when one of the mothers requested a DNA test after two months after leaving the hospital she suspected that the child she was raising was someone else's. It turned out that the doubts were well-founded.
Now, three months later, the children are about to be returned to their biological parents.
An inspection of all obstetrics and gynecology departments in the country also begins.
