More than 5% of the population in 11 Bulgarian regions work abroad

Eleven Bulgarian regions are the largest "donors" of labour to foreign countries. More than 5% of the population of Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Kardzhali, Kyustendil, Lovech, Razgrad, Sliven, Smolyan, Targovishte, Haskovo has gone to work outside Bulgaria in the last 10 years, according to data from the Executive Agency "Main Labour Inspectorate". The preferred destinations of Bulgarian labour migrants in the last 10 years were Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Greece, Belgium, Austria, France and the Czech Republic.

According to the survey, the main reason for Bulgarians to look for work abroad is the better pay and the hope to save for the future.
