Border Police detain Iranian filmmaker at the Bulgaria-Serbia border

A 42-year-old Iranian national was detained at the Bulgaria-Serbia border near the village of Dolni Koriten, Treklyano Municipality. The Iranian, who works in the cinema industry, pleaded guilty to illegally crossing the border. He was sentenced by the Kyustendil District Court to a suspended term of imprisonment and was fined 100 BGN (EUR 51).

Since the beginning of 2022, more than 140 refugees have been convicted after being detained at the Bulgaria-Serbia border. According to local people, the Border Police have stepped up controls and refugees have already changed their route.
