If necessary, the state can take control of the oil refineries in Bulgaria. This was adopted by MPs at first reading. According to the changes, control will be carried out by the Minister of Economy, who will have the right to appoint a special chief operating officer in the relevant oil refining company.

The proposal of "Democratic Bulgaria" envisages that the special management executive be appointed for a period of six plus six months, without the right to dispose of the company's property. The special manager will be introduced if the refinery has breached EU, UN rules or is likely to be shut down.

"It gives the impression that there is currently a crisis that can hardly be controlled, and this is being done to punish Russia by taking its property," commented Dragomir Stoynev from the BSP.

The importers of the bill emphasized that it was not a question of a change of ownership.
