The construction of the prison in the village of Samoranovo (Dupnitsa Municipality) begins. This will be the first prison built in 60 years in Bulgaria. Bulgaria’s Minister of Justice Krum Zarkov will turn the first sod on 19 December.

Funding is provided under the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021. 200 cells for 400 prisoners should be ready by 2024. The place will meet all European standards. The complex includes a modern detention facility for remand prisoners, a chapel, a school building, a library, outdoor sports grounds, etc.
