Pentagon gives Ukrainian army a tacit endorsement for long-range attacks on targets inside Russia

The Pentagon has given a tacit endorsement of Ukraine’s long-range attacks on targets inside Russia after President Putin’s multiple missile strikes against Kyiv’s critical infrastructure, the Times writes, quoting a US defence source who says the Pentagon has revised its threat assessment of the war in Ukraine. Crucially, this includes new judgments about whether arms shipments to Kyiv might lead to a military confrontation between Russia and NATO. Washington will likely provide Kyiv with longer-range weapons. “We are not telling Kyiv, 'Don't strike at the Russians.' We cannot tell them what to do. How they will use their weapons depends on them. We only insist that using the provided weapons, the Ukrainian military adhere to the international laws of war and the Geneva Conventions,” the source said, and added that “Russian families should not be targeted, and there should also be no attempts to eliminate specific individuals. As far as we know, Ukraine complies with these conditions,".

Meanwhile the chairman of the lower house of Russian parliament Vyacheslav Volodin wrote, on Telegram, that France and Germany have to take responsibility for what is happening in Ukraine, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports. According to Volodin, they never intended to observe the Minsk agreements which they signed as guarantors of a peaceful development of events.
