Bulgaria has signed a memorandum of understanding on the production of Bulgarian euro coins, the Bulgarian National Bank and the Ministry of Finance have announced.

The document was signed by Minister of Finance in the caretaker cabinet Rositza Velkova and Bulgarian National Bank governor Dimitar Radev, as well as by European Commission Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni and the President of the Eurogroup Paschal Donohoe.

The memorandum maps out the practical steps that will enable Bulgaria to start making euro coins once it has received approval for joining the Eurozone. These steps concern the minting of certain amounts of sample coins with images on the common side of the euro coins and the choice of national designs for the Bulgarian euro coins.
