The decision on Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen will be made on December 8 at the Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting and Bulgaria has all chances to become part of the Schengen area, caretaker Minister of Justice Krum Zarkov has told BNT.

"We have one last obstacle - the position of the Netherlands. I believe that the Netherlands will take the right position, because there are no practical reasons for opposing the accession. All incidents at the border, including tragic ones, should be a signal to the European partners, including the Netherlands, that Bulgaria makes sacrifices for their security and that entering Schengen improves security, not the other way around," Zarkov said. We would be able to concentrate additional efforts and strengthen the security of the Bulgarian border, the minister added.
