The prosecutor’s office is launching an ex-ante probe into allegations by the leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Kornelia Ninova of manipulated machine voting during the snap election for parliament in October this year.

“We have serious suspicions of election fraud during the latest election, and I hope the relevant authorities and the prosecutor’s office will consider the matter on its own initiative,” Kornelia Ninova stated at a briefing in Plovdiv yesterday. The tally sheets from the voting machines and the paper copies of each vote do not tally, she stated.

The prosecutor’s office is considering the matter of its own accord, following statements by BSP leader Kornelia Ninova and the chair of the BSP parliamentary group Georgi Svilenski, made during discussions in parliament of amendments to the Election Code at second reading, sources from the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office told the BNR, specifying that the probe has been assigned to the State Agency for National Security.
