With protests in Sofia and Plovdiv, various organizations mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women today. Unofficial statistics indicate that more than 20 murders of women were committed this year as a result of domestic violence. In Bulgaria, the Ministry of the Interior does not keep official statistics on reports and cases of domestic violence.

About a third of cases related to domestic violence are closed because the victim withdraws the complaint. In most cases, there is fear not only for oneself, but also for children, other relatives and loved ones.
