Just four out of seven political forces entered the plenary hall and there was no quorum to open today's meeting of the National Assembly. "We Continue the Change" and "Democratic Bulgaria" boycottеd the parliament, while GERB MPs were summoned to the party headquarters by their leader Boyko Borissov.
Co-chair of „We Continue the Change“ Kiril Petkov said that his fellow party members would not enter the hall, even if Boyko Borissov took a step back on the Election Code changes proposed by the BSP, as "We Continue the Change" insist on complete withdrawal of the draft.
Meanwhile, at a briefing, the leader of GERB called on the MPs of his party to vote against the proposals for closing of the Public Council to the CEC and removing the electoral constituency of Bulgarians abroad, as well as the condition for a minimum of 100 applications to open voting sections abroad. However, he pointed out that GERB would not give up on the idea for reintroducing paper ballots.
According to Boyko Borisov, he invited the rest of the parliamentary forces to a discussion, in order to reopen the topic of the Election Code, but also because of the need for a functioning National Assembly. "Yesterday in Stockholm, the arbitration court ordered Finland to pay 300 million euros under a contract with Gazprom. If this happened to Bulgaria, we would have to pay over 1 billion euros. Where are we to take the money from without a working parliament and budget?,“ he said.
Two hours later and after three votes, the MPs managed to gather a quorum with the help of the Parliamentary Group of GERB-SDS.
