Veliko Tarnovo is one of the towns chosen to pilot the European Union’s "Green Cities for a Sustainable Europe" project in Bulgaria. The project aims to encourage the greening of public spaces by providing innovative ideas and scientific information.

After the conclusion of the memorandum, Veliko Tarnovo Mayor Daniel Panov said that the new programming period provides many opportunities for building parks and green areas and the new partnership will help this process. "When there is a talk of the Green Deal it is good to know that this is not just about renewable energy sources or circular economy, but also about taking care of the urban vegetation," said Architect Tatyana Boyadzhieva, President of the Bulgarian Association of Ornamental Plant Nurseries.
