Iliana Iotova: Analysis of problems in care of children with autism is needed

There is no complete register of children with autism in Bulgaria. There is no information about their number, location, about their age, or about the good practices that need to be implemented. This is what Vice President Iliana Iotova said in Pleven at the opening of the Forum for Social Services and the third International Conference on Autism, organized by the "Autism Today" association.

Four centers for children with autism operate in this country. Institutional coordination is needed in the care provided to people with autism, who face bureaucracy and misunderstanding. On the occasion of a case involving a child with autism from the city of Pernik, who has been missing for a fourth day, Iotova said that the case showed the urgent necessity to analyze existing problems.

The 12-year-old boy disappeared on November 11 while walking in the surroundings of his hometown. The search, involving police, rescuers and volunteers, remains fruitless.
