The Bulgarian Council of Ministers has decided to extend the program for Ukrainian refugees in this country, which was due until October 31. This was announced at a briefing by the Minister of Interior, Ivan Demerdzhiev. Aid will continue to be provided through the accommodation of Ukrainians in government bases. A 15-day deadline will be given until the middle of the month for people who are staying in hotels to move to suitable places. When asked by the BNR how long the program for the accommodation of refugees in the state bases would last, Demerdzhiev replied that it would certainly continue until the end of the year and then the parliament will make a decision on the matter.
Earlier today, it became clear that Ukrainian citizens have started moving out of the hotels in the Black Sea resort of Sunny Beach while waiting for the decision of the National Operational Headquarters on whether the program for their humanitarian assistance would be extended. Some of the Ukrainian refugees go to Constanta, Romania, where there is a program for accommodation until June. In the meantime, a commission from the Economic Police, police officers in Nessebar, the NRA and the Child Protection Agency started conducting checks in the hotels to determine the number of Ukrainian refugees. According to unconfirmed information, significant discrepancies were found in some of the hotels in Sunny Beach where Ukrainian citizens were accommodated, BNR Varna reported.
According to data on the state website "Bulgaria for Ukraine", there are about 55,000 Ukrainian refugees in Bulgaria, as about 16,000 have been accommodated by the state.
