The National Biodiversity Council at the Ministry of Environment and Water has lifted the ban on the completion of Struma Motorway through the Kresna Gorge.
The council adopted detailed nature conservation objectives for the protected area in the gorge. The previous government used the procedure as a pretext to suspend construction. The data updated by the caretaker government complies with EU regulations and allows the future route of the motorway in the Kresna Gorge to be split in both directions.
Thus, less tunnels will be built and higher road safety will be achieved. Moreover, this is the most environmentally friendly construction, experts said.
