The town of Radomir, located in Pernik district, hosts today a festival dedicated to the traditional cereal-based fermented drink called boza. Residents and guests of Radomir will be able to try the traditional drink free of charge at the old market street. The beverage will be served by waiters and waitresses dressed in old style costumes.
Radomir is known as the boza capital of Bulgaria. The town boasts of the one and only monument to the boza maker and vendor Bay Iliya. The senior residents of Radomir are known as the best producers of boza.
The festival is always celebrated on the second Saturday of October. Traditionally, the Ambassadors of Kosovo and Albania to Bulgaria attend the festival, as this craft is believed to have been brought to Bulgaria from these countries. Guests can attend various demonstrations and learn how to make boza, how to knead dough and prepare Radomirska Kavarma (traditional meat casserole). The festival programme includes the performance of amateur folklore groups.
