The Bulgarian Bioproducts Association participated for the first time in the BIOEXPO 2022 in Warsaw - one of the largest European specialized exhibitions for organic food and non-food products. Bulgarian producers participate in the forum with the financial support of the Ministry of Agriculture. The goal is to find new markets for the Bulgarian products.
"Short-sighted policy has caused this type of production in Bulgaria to has shrink several times in recent years. Organic production, which was close to 7% years ago, has now collapsed to 1.5%," said Albena Simeonova, chair of the association. She pointed out that at the same time the import of organic products that were first exported from Bulgaria, processed in Germany and returned to this country, was very large. According to her, this is a niche that should be exploited at governmental level, which would help the Bulgarian organic producers stay in the villages.
