The chairpersons of the political groups in European parliament have approved the proposal by the chair of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats Iratxe García Pérez for debates on the accession to the Schengen area by Bulgaria and Romania during the plenary session in Strasburg next week.

This was announced by Iratxe García Pérez herself who wrote on Facebook: “On the occasion of my last visit to Bucharest, I promised to do my best to end this injustice: Romania and Bulgaria are kept out of the Schengen area, despite the fact that, for 11 years, they have met the accession criteria.

I am glad that the other leaders of the political groups in the European Parliament have accepted my proposal to discuss this situation in next week's plenary.”

According to information obtained by the BNR’s Horizont channel, the debates are scheduled for the early afternoon on Wednesday next. The resolution will be voted two weeks later.
