The Bulgarian Orthodox Church celebrates today one of its great feasts - the Transfiguration of the Lord. It dates back to the first centuries of Christianity and is associated with one of the most important Gospel events - the appearance of Jesus Christ in heavenly glory before three of his closest disciples.

"The meaning of our life here on Earth is to transform ourselves from carnal, sinful people into spiritual people who live and observe the Gospel commandments," Metropolitan Gabriel of Lovech told BNR. He will serve Holy Mass for the feast in the chapel of the Transfiguration of the Lord near Krushuna Falls. During the service the first grapes of this year will be blessed

According to tradition, this day is the turning point from which the weather slowly begins to change towards autumn and winter.
