We have reached the peak of coronavirus infections. The number of new cases will start to decline within 2 weeks, Professor Todor Kantardzhiev, health advisor at Sofia Municipality said for the BNR.

He warned that vaccine-induced immunity is insufficient against the new Covid-19 variants, if vaccines were administered 10 months ago or earlier.

The basic reproduction number is about 1, which means that 10 people with Covid-19 are now infecting 10 other people. We are now witnessing a decline in the basic reproduction number that will continue until early September, mathematician Lachezar Tomov forecasted in an interview for NOVA NEWS. In his view, there will be a new wave of coronavirus pandemic after the holiday season.
