Bulgaria and Romania working to ensure normal navigation of Ukrainian ships on the Danube

Bulgaria and Romania have been working to ensure navigation on the Danube River, both sides said at a meeting of the Danube Commission in Ruse, convened at the initiative of the EU.

It has been reported that thanks to the new vessels and equipment delivered under the European programs, Bulgaria strictly maintains the fairway in the Bulgarian-Romanian section of the river. Because of the war in Ukraine, 130 ships bound for Central Europe are still waiting in the Danube Delta.

At the meeting it was agreed that a Bulgarian-Romanian working group should start work on projects for the construction of 5 new bridges over the river. The European Commission has expressed support for transport connectivity along the north-south axis.
