The funding under the Recovery and Resilience Plan has been cut because of a mechanism signed by the government of Boyko Borissov, reads a position by the Ministry of Finance. The non-reimbursable funding for Bulgaria has been reduced by almost EUR 580 million due to the legal framework signed by the Borissov cabinet which stipulates that 30% of the entire grant be recalculated on the basis of the economic growth for 2021 actually recorded. The data regarding this growth were finalized as of June 2022 on the basis of which there is a reduction for the country, because Bulgaria’s economic indicators are better than the EU average, the Finance Ministry explains.

At the same time the Ministry points out that the recalculation affects all member countries simultaneously, not just Bulgaria. The non-reimbursable funding for 22 member countries under the mechanism has been reduced, 7 of them have had larger sums cut than Bulgaria has.
