Bulgarian Alexander Nikolov grabs award of the American Volleyball Coaches Association

The rising star of Bulgarian volleyball, Alexander Nikolov, has been named National Player of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in the NCAA. The news was announced on Facebook by the US Embassy in Sofia.

"Our special congratulations to Alex Nikolov from the Bulgarian National Team, who was named National Player of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in the NCAA last month. He is the first player in AVCA history to win the award as a freshman. Congratulations, Alex!," the embassy wrote.

18-year-old Alexander is the son of Vladimir Nikolov, a long-time captain of the Bulgarian national volleyball team.
