Bulgaria achieved its greatest success in the 21st century at the European Weightlifting Championships in Tirana, winning first place in the men’s team standings (as in 2021), but also in the overall standings, the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation has announced.
With a total of 5 titles in 10 men’s categories, the Bulgarian weightlifters grabbed 8 medals – 5 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze in the two lifts. Adding to them the medals in the separate lifts, the Bulgarian team won a total of 23 medals, 13 of them gold. In the standings by nations, Bulgaria is well ahead of all other teams in the number of medals, men’s titles, and in the overall standings. What makes these successes even more significant is that the team is competing with only 13 competitors, compared to 17, 19 and even 20 weightlifters in the other teams.
