Twice more tomatoes, cabbage planted in Bulgaria in 2022 compared to previous year

Twice as many tomatoes and cabbage have been planted in Bulgaria this year compared to 2021, show data of the latest analysis of the Ministry of Agriculture. 

The areas with melons and strawberries are also increasing.

According to preliminary data from the beginning of this year, imports of fresh vegetables have decreased compared to the same period in 2021, while imports of fresh fruit have increased by more than 10%. 

Statistics also report that all basic fruits and vegetables are sold at higher prices, with the most significant increase in the price of tomatoes - by over 77%.

In the period July 2021 - February 2022, more than 3,772,000 tonnes of wheat were sold outside Bulgaria, or 86% more than the same period a year ago.
