Nearly 30,000 Ukrainian refugees are staying in hotels along Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. After May 31, when the official start of the summer tourist season will be given, most of them will be accomodated at state-owned accomodation facilities. No refugees will be left homeless, Bulgaria’s Minister of Tourism Hristo Prodanov said for the Bulgarian National Radio.
In his view, the state should not pay for the accommodation of refugees in private homes, because it would be difficult to control the process. Next week the government will decide whether to continue compensating hoteliers with EUR 20 a day for each accommodated Ukrainian refugee. According to Minister Prodanov, the government is working to help refugees integrate into Bulgaria’s labor market. "There are mobile groups that visit accommodation facilities and conduct surveys among refugees. Nearly 90% of the refugees want to start working", Hristo Prodanov said.
