The National Assembly Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs has approved at second reading the closure of the Specialized Court and Specialized Prosecutor’s Office. The sitting began with verbal confrontation between Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of “Democratic Bulgaria” Hristo Ivanov.

According to Ivan Geshev, the closure of the Specialized Court and Specialized Prosecutor’s Office will affect the rule of law. “The expectations that these structures will be exploited for political purposes have been met to a large extent thanks to your personal actions”, Hristo Ivanov replied. The MPs from GERB and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms were against the closure of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office and Specialized Court.
