Since the beginning of the war 164,000 Ukrainians have entered Bulgaria, of whom 75,000 have remained in the country. Temporary protection status has been granted to 51,000, according to the Bulgaria for Ukraine unified information portal. More than 40,000 refugees are accommodated in hotels and and vacation facilities.
"In a day and a half, 37 buses arrived in the northeastern village of Durankulak and the Danube city of Ruse, which lead to overcrowding," Valeri Rachev, head of refugee coordination, told BNR. He stressed that now the situation was under control.
The deadline for providing humanitarian aid to refugees without registration for temporary protection has been extended to 15 April, Tourism Minister Hristo Prodanov said.
