Library corners will comfort children at Pirogov Hospital

There is hardly a parent who has not used a fairy-tale character from a children's book to explain to their child his or her personal emotional state or a certain situation. All children need reasurance and comfort especially when it comes to a not particularly pleasant experience, as a visit to hospital undoubtedly is. Starting this week, Bulgaria's largest urgent care center, Pirogov, will offer solace to its youngest patients in its new Library Corners.

They will be set up in each department of the hospital where children up to 18 years of age are admitted and treated. 10 Bulgarian publishers have already donated volumes of children's literature. "This is an idea of our team and I am very happy that we were able to implement it," Pirogov director Ivan Poromanski told BNR.


Last year nearly 23 thousand children sought health care at the hospital. "We believe books are very good therapy. They are a refuge in difficult moments, a helper in emotional, social and health problems," Viktoria Bisserova, whose publishing house has donated 500 books to the hospital's Book Corners, told BNR. The initiative "Donate a book to the University Hospital "Pirogov" is happening during the 11th "March of the Books" in Bulgaria. Anyone who would like to donate a book is welcome.
