At the beginning of April every year, foresters mark their professional day with a multitude of events dedicated to the preservation of forests in Bulgaria. This year’s Forest Week, from 4 to 10 April, is taking place under the motto “I love the forest”.
Its programme features large-scale nationwide campaigns of afforestation and clearing woodland, with the support of the public and of volunteer organizations.
“Afforestation is the activity volunteers enjoy most but it is not the only one,” foresters say. According to them, growing and looking after a forest is a long and difficult process, requiring professional action. That is why, during Forest Week, volunteers will be planting trees, but they will also be afforded an opportunity to learn the basics of how to look after forest resources. For example, environmentalists will be able to join initiatives for clearing woodland throughout the country. There will also be a quiz for children: Learning and knowing all about Bulgarian forests.
